Hyundai Motor India shares touched a high of Rs 1,939.10 on 28 October, yet Q2 profit dropped 24% despite posting record quarterly sales.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd earned Rs 1,196 crore in the July to September quarter, down from Rs 1,572 crore a year ago.
Revenue went the other way, rising about 19% to over Rs 20,000 crore. The board approved the numbers at a meeting on Wednesday.
Costs explain the gap. The company said higher commodity prices hurt its earnings.
Operating profit (EBITDA) fell 18.7% to Rs 1,974 crore, and the margin, which is the share of sales left as operating profit, shrank to 9.5% from 13.9%.
Even so, the margin improved from the previous quarter, which the firm credited to cost cuts and a better mix of cars sold.
Sales volumes tell a brighter story. Hyundai sold 2,19,072 vehicles, its best quarter ever. That is up 15% from last year and 23% from the previous quarter.
India drove most of it. Domestic sales rose 19%, and rural markets reached a record 26.6% share of sales. CNG cars made up a record 19.1%.
Exports grew 4% from a year ago and 38% from the previous quarter, despite geopolitical trouble.
Compared with the April to June quarter, profit rose about 35% and revenue climbed 26.5%. The company also said its new BAYON model has drawn an encouraging response.
Shareholders received a dividend of Rs 21 per share earlier this year, with an ex-date of 5 August 2026.
At the close on NSE, the stock ended at Rs 1,866.90, up Rs 5.60 or 0.30% from the previous close of Rs 1,861.30.
The day’s low was Rs 1,857.40, and the company’s market capitalisation stood near Rs 1,51,693 crore.
