Nepal helicopter crash: An Indian national was killed after two helicopters collided while attempting to land in Nepal's Solukhumbu district on Tuesday.
The collision also left three others, including both the pilots, injured, a PTI report, citing the Nepal Police said.
The helicopters, involved in the accident, were operated by Fishtail Air and Air Dynasty.
The two helicopters collided while landing at Pheriche in Ward 4 of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu district, the PTI report said.
The helicopters collided at around 8.11 AM (local time), the District Police Office, Solukhumbu, told PTI.
Police Inspector Mausam Tamang told PTI that the deceased was identified as Vasanth Kumar Balaramaramadu (47), an Indian national travelling aboard the Fishtail Air helicopter.
Shailesh Krishna Patel, a 49-year-old Indian origin resident of New Zealand who was also aboard the same helicopter, was injured in the collision. He was airlifted to Mediciti Hospital in Kathmandu by a Prabhu Helicopter, Tamang said.
Nepalese pilots, Rabindra Prajapati of Fishtail Air and Prajwal KC of Dynasty Air, were also injured in the incident and have been taken to Kathmandu for further treatment.
Pheriche lies on the way to the Mt. Everest Base Camp, 150 km northeast of Kathmandu.
Police said the body of Balaramaramadu has been taken to a hospital in Lukla.
The number of passengers aboard the two helicopters at the time of the collision has yet to be confirmed. Police said they were gathering further details of the incident.
Nepal floods: 1,453 dead, 5,285 missing
At least 1,453 people have died and 5,285 remain unaccounted for a month after flash floods devastated parts of central and northern Nepal, PTI reported. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said that close to 1,451 bodies had been recovered, while two people died while undergoing treatment. A total of over 13,795 people have been rescued.
The floods struck on August 26 after heavy rain near the Nepal-Tibet border, with the Bhotekoshi River carrying floodwaters downstream and sweeping away homes, vehicles, roads and bridges. Several hydropower projects were also damaged.
The disaster also killed 43 people in Tibet, while more than 500 remain unaccounted for, according to Chinese media.
In Nepal, security agencies have provided medical treatment to around 11,000 people affected by the floods. Seven people injured in the disaster are still undergoing treatment, the NDRRMA said.
Identifying the dead remains one of the biggest challenges. Only 112 of the 1,453 recovered bodies have been identified and handed over to their families, according to the authority.
