The Delhi government’s Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has launched a mobile application that allows consumers to book liquor in advance from its retail outlets, officials said on Tuesday.

The app, named ‘Delhi Liquor Booking’, enables users to browse available brands, select a retail store, choose bottle sizes and quantities, and make payments online.

Once the booking is completed, consumers receive a QR code that can be scanned at the selected outlet to collect their purchases.

The facility is currently available only at DSIIDC-operated liquor stores. The corporation operates 208 liquor outlets across the national capital, officials said.

The online booking system is intended to reduce waiting times at retail outlets, ease pressure on payment counters and improve transparency in pricing and billing.

It also allows consumers to choose their preferred drinks from the available range of brands.

However, officials said the response to online liquor booking has not been encouraging so far. Any further expansion of the facility will depend on consumer response.

  • The app does not offer home delivery. Consumers must collect the liquor bottles they have booked and paid for online from the selected store within 48 hours, officials said.

Cancellation of an order is permitted before the booked liquor is picked up. However, there is no provision for returning products once they have been sold or collected.

The app can be used only by individuals aged 25 years or above. As per excise rules, a person is permitted to purchase up to nine litres of whisky and 18 litres of beer.

DSIIDC is one of four government corporations authorised to sell liquor at retail outlets in Delhi. Together, the four corporations operate more than 700 liquor vends across the city.

The new facility currently covers only DSIIDC’s own outlets and does not extend to liquor stores operated by the other corporations.
