Coal India’s production increased about 19% to 67.2 million tonnes (MT)on a year-on-year basis in October, indicative of mining activity of the country’s largest producer picking up after being dampened because of monsoons.
The Kolkata-headquartered miner said that its supplies to the power sector also increased 19% to touch 57.1 MT. Overall supplies during the month surged 19% on a year-over-year basis to scale 70.3 MT. Both supplies to the power sector and overall supplies scaled record-highs in a single month, the company said.
About evacuation, it said that it loaded on an average 310 rakes per day — to the power sector — in October.
In a statement, the Coal India said, “The achievement assumes greater significance in view of the need to augment coal stocks at thermal power plants amid rising power demand, while disruptions caused by unseasonal rainfall, the Puja festivities and impact of a cyclone posed challenges to the operational performance.”
