Police have identified the accused in the chainsaw attack on a Class 10 student inside her classroom in Andhra Pradesh as the victim’s maternal uncle. The accused, 21-year-old Hemanth, had allegedly been harassing the teenager in the name of ‘love’ for some time, according to her family.

The 15-year-old girl, who studies in Class 10 at a government school in Anantapur, was attacked by Hemanth with a chainsaw on Saturday morning while she was attending a class with other students.

Anantapur rural Sub-Divisional Police Officer K Ashwin Manideep said the accused, also known as Dummu, is from Nagaluru village in Sri Sathya Sai district. He had been living with his elder sister in Ayyavaripalle village.

The victim’s family alleged that Hemanth had been harassing her for some time before entering the school and attacking her. Police said he walked into the classroom at around 10.30 am while a lesson was underway and inflicted severe injuries to the girl’s face, neck and back.

Teacher Describes Moments Of Horror Inside Classroom

Rajeshwari, the teacher present in the classroom during the incident, said the accused suddenly entered the room carrying an instrument that was making a noise. The attack unfolded within minutes, leaving her little time to understand what he was holding.

She said Hemanth rushed towards the girl, attacked her with the tree-cutting tool and escaped from the classroom.

“He pounced on the victim and attacked her with the instrument for a few seconds and ran out," she said.

The teacher said students began screaming as the girl lay in a pool of blood. Other girls seated next to the victim also sustained injuries while trying to stop the attack.

“He was shouting at others who tried to intervene before fleeing the place," Rajeshwari said.

Teenager Moved To Bengaluru For Advanced Treatment

The girl was initially taken to Anantapur Government General Hospital, where she underwent surgery, state Health Minister Y Satya Kumar said. However, as her condition became critical, she was moved to a super-speciality hospital in Bengaluru in a special ambulance for further treatment.

“A green channel has been provided for the ambulance to take the girl to a private hospital in Bengaluru," the minister said, adding that her condition was being closely monitored.
