Actor Imran Khan on Tuesday submitted an unconditional apology before the Bombay High Court for his participation in the October 10 anti-SIR protests in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He stated in the undertaking that he went to the protest site solely to observe the “restriction" of movement and “suppression" of voices.

Khan promised that he would not participate in any protests in the near future, reported The Indian Express.

Bollywood actor Imran Khan participated in the October 10 protest in Mumbai seeking the rollback of the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond, appearing for Imran Khan, submitted an undertaking before the court on Monday, November 2, after being prompted by the bench during the hearing of the actor’s plea challenging a Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) Leave India Notice (LIN).

Because Imran Khan is a United States citizen holding an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, a complaint was filed by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya arguing that foreign nationals cannot legally participate in political agitations on Indian soil.

Subsequently, the FRRO issued a ‘leave India Notice’ to Khan on October 14 under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, directing him to leave the country by October 28.

Actor Imran Khan was issued a Leave India Notice by the FRRO because he participated in an anti-SIR political protest in Mumbai, which led to complaints that foreign nationals holding OCI cards cannot legally engage in political agitations on Indian soil.

Imran Khan submitted an unconditional apology and an undertaking stating that he went to the protest site solely to observe movement restrictions and suppression of voices, and he promised not to participate in any future protests.

The Bombay High Court extended the stay on the FRRO's Leave India Notice until December 7 after the actor filed his unconditional apology and agreed to the court's terms regarding OCI cardholder restrictions.
