India on Thursday slammed Pakistan over the issues of terrorism and religious freedom, underlining that while the rights of terrorists are vigorously defended, similar concern is rarely shown for the rights of terrorism victims.
Bhavika Mangalanandan, India’s First Secretary at the United Nations, took part in an interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion and Belief on funeral rights in exceptional circumstances.
She said that during the 1999 Kargil War, Pakistan had refused to accept the bodies of its soldiers who were killed, while the Indian Army had buried several Pakistani soldiers with full military honours and in accordance with Islamic rites.
“Let me remind Pakistan that it was the Indian Army who buried a number of Pakistani soldiers with military honours and in accordance with Islamic rites", she said.
#IndiaAtUNBhavika Mangalanandan, First Secretary, took part in the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion and Belief on the topic of funeral rights in-exceptional circumstances. She made the following observations:
➡️ Report attributes all wrong practices during COVID-19 only to the Global South, turning a blind eye to similar tragic situations in the developed world.
➡️ Fervent advocacy made for rights of terrorists who violate the most sacred human right – the right to life!
➡️ Deeply ironic that a State that did not even accept the bodies of its own soldiers who were killed in combat in 1999 in Kargil, unabashedly speaks with fervor on faith, religious freedom and burial rights.
➡️ Reminded delegate of Pakistan that it was the Indian Army who buried a number of Pakistani soldiers with military honours and in accordance with Islamic rites.
➡️ Advised that Pakistan’s deep obsession with the Indian Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir should be directed at the developments underway in the parts of Jammu & Kashmir under its illegal occupation, such as Rawalakot.

Rejecting Pakistan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, Mangalanandan said that instead of lecturing India, Pakistan should focus on the territories under its illegal occupation and developments there.
She also raised concerns over the declining population of minorities in Pakistan and violations of their rights.
The Kargil War was fought between India and Pakistan between May 3 and July 26, 1999, with the Indian Army successfully mobilising ground forces to carry out high-altitude frontal and night assaults.
Mangalanandan pointed out that “Pakistan’s deep obsession with the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir should be directed at the developments underway in the parts of Jammu and Kashmir under its illegal occupation, such as Rawalakot."
