SPSR Nellore District Election Officer and Collector Himanshu Shukla has taken disciplinary action against polling officers who missed the training sessions organised for the upcoming ZPTC and MPTC elections.

As many as 4,497 Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs) have been appointed to oversee the polling process across 1,665 polling stations set up for the ZPTC and MPTC elections in the district. Among them, 308 assigned officials have failed to attend the training programmes.

The Collector further noted that if any POs or APOs already assigned to election duties have been given other responsibilities or are facing health issues, they may provide the relevant details at the distribution centre to seek an exemption.

However, he clarified that it is not an acceptable practice to remain absent from the training sessions. He instructed that every individual appointed for election duties must strictly adhere to the rules and guidelines and carry out their assigned responsibilities with due diligence.

Mr. Shukla noted that those who receive show-cause notices for missing the training sessions must personally meet with him to explain reasons for their absence.

Meanwhile, Additional Election Officer and Municipal Commissioner Y.O. Nandan has issued show-cause notices to three secretariat staff members for negligence in the distribution of voter slips. Among them, two were working in Nellore City and one in Nellore Rural constituencies.
