Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta has said that 14 cases have been registered in eight districts for various violations in connection with the local body elections in Andhra Pradesh on the last day of nominations on Friday.

Cases have been registered for the incidents that occurred during the filing of nominations in Palnadu, Kadapa, Anantapur, Nellore, Kurnool, Annamayya, Tirupati and Markapuram districts, the DGP said.

Additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas, and police protection has been given to the candidates wherever required, in coordination with the district administrations and election authorities.

The police promptly intervened wherever disturbances or obstructions were reported and contained confrontations, bringing the situation under control, the DGP said in a release.

Mr. Harish Kumar Gupta directed the Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to ensure strict monitoring of the personnel on election duty.

“Police officers will preserve evidence and track the offenders. Any case of delayed intervention and failure in supervision will attract scrutiny,” the DGP said.

The police identified 17 accused involved in poll-related violations on Friday.
