In a move to promote transparency and accountability in the real estate sector, CREDAI Chennai has constituted an Anti-Corruption Committee and introduced a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to report instances of undue gratification, corruption, and coercion.

The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India (CREDAI), Chennai, the apex body for the real estate industry in India, has told its members through a letter that this SOP is framed in line with the vision of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who has consistently and unequivocally declared his government’s zero-tolerance stance against corruption.

This SOP applies to matters relating to planning permissions, building permits, layout approvals, completion certificates, NOCs, inspections, registrations, utility connections, revenue/land records, statutory certificates, and other government-related services affecting member projects.

“Members have been told that genuine corruption-related issues will be formally reported to the Chief Minister’s Special Cell, with copies marked to the Ministry concerned and the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption,” said P. Kruthivas, president-elect, CREDAI Chennai.

A complaint may be submitted only by persons connected with CREDAI Chennai member developers, including promoters, managing director, partner, proprietor and authorised signatory of Public Limited companies.

CREDAI said in a letter that the term ‘Anti-Corruption Committee’ was used in the SOP as it was formal, clear, and aligned with the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
