Defying snowfall and sub-zero temperatures, electricity workers in Ladakh are continuing infrastructure development works in some of the Union Territory’s most remote and challenging terrains, including Nubra and the Siachen region.
Braving extreme weather conditions, frontline workers are climbing electricity poles and carrying out field operations to strengthen power connectivity in far-flung and strategically important areas.
The initiative is being undertaken by the Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD) in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), as part of efforts to expand reliable electricity infrastructure across the Union Territory.
The ongoing works aim to ensure that even remote settlements and high-altitude regions are covered under the broader push for infrastructure development and improved connectivity.
The initiative is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last mile. Under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and through the interventions of Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, the administration has been pushing ahead with critical infrastructure projects across Ladakh.
Secretary, Power Development Department, Himanshu Gupta, is spearheading the efforts through interdepartmental coordination and regular monitoring of ongoing projects.
Visuals of electricity workers undertaking operations on poles amid snowfall highlight the challenging conditions under which infrastructure development is progressing in the region.
