Apple has launched a redesigned iPad mini priced from USD 699, introducing an OLED display and the first water-resistant design in the iPad family. The company unveiled the tablet on Monday, 26 October 2026, and the launch kicks off a week of Apple product announcements.
OLED display replaces LCDThe new iPad mini centres on an 8.5-inch OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screen, up from the 8.3-inch LCD panel on the previous model. It offers deeper blacks, brighter whites and stronger contrast. Apple has kept the overall footprint the same by making the bezels 24% thinner.
Peak brightness reaches 1,200 nits, more than double the previous model, and the screen can dim to 1 nit for late-night reading. A nano-texture glass option, previously limited to the iPad Pro, is meant to reduce glare outdoors.
First iPad with IP67 rating
The iPad mini is the first iPad to receive an IP67 rating, which covers protection against dust and immersion in water to a limited depth. To achieve the sealed construction, Apple redesigned the audio system. The speakers now sit beneath the display instead of behind open grilles, a common entry point for moisture.
The new acoustic display system routes bass through the screen, an approach designed to maintain sound quality. The front-facing 12MP centre stage camera has moved to the landscape edge for better framing in video calls.
Faster chip for on-device AI
The tablet is powered by the A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, with a 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU. Apple claims up to 4.5x faster AI performance, 2.7x faster graphics and 60% faster multithreaded performance than the previous generation. The device supports Siri AI, which arrives in beta with iPadOS 27.2.
Apple’s N1 chip enables Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, while cellular models use the C2 modem for up to 50% faster data speeds.
Price and availability
The iPad mini starts at USD 699. Pre-orders open on 28 October, with sales beginning on 6 November. In India, the Wi-Fi model starts at Rs 82,900 and the Wi-Fi + Cellular version at Rs 1,00,900. Storage options are 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, and the colours are midnight and starlight.
First full redesign since 2021
The update is the first full redesign of the iPad mini since 2021. By combining an OLED display, water resistance and faster performance in a compact body, Apple is targeting users who want portability without giving up modern features. The launch also comes ahead of Apple’s larger “Pro and tell” event later in the week.
