When pressed on whether he was considering a political debut, the actor offered a brief response: “Happy Diwali.”

Actor Dhanush meets his fan club's women wing members.
Actor Dhanush has left the door open to speculation about his political ambitions, offering no clarity on a possible entry into politics after meeting around 3,000 members and office-bearers of his fan club’s women’s wing in Chennai on Sunday.
Asked by reporters about the gathering, Dhanush said he was “very happy". When pressed on whether he was considering a political debut, the actor offered a brief response: “Happy Diwali."

The exchange did little to quiet the buzz around the actor, whose fan network has recently undergone a significant organisational change. For his supporters, however, the meeting was an opportunity to see their favourite star up close, and perhaps a glimpse of what his future could hold.
Dhanush’s Fan Club Becomes Welfare Movement
The gathering at a private college in Chennai came days after Dhanush’s fan association, previously known as Dhanush Narpani Mandram, was renamed Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam, positioning it as a welfare movement.
The change was formally approved at an executives’ meeting in Coimbatore on October 14. The organisation also unveiled a new logo featuring the actor with folded hands against a red star.
The restructuring had fuelled speculation that Dhanush could be laying the groundwork for a political entry. However, the actor has made no official announcement about joining a political party or launching one of his own.
Sunday’s meeting drew women supporters from several districts, with some braving heavy rain to attend. Dhanush posed for photographs with attendees and presented them with silver Kamatchi lamps as Diwali gifts.
For many, the opportunity to meet the actor was reason enough to turn up. Sophia, a fan from Villivakkam, told PTI that seeing Dhanush was her main motivation for attending despite the rain. Another supporter, Hannah, who travelled from Perambur, said it was her first chance to see the actor in person after watching his films for years.
Political Speculation Intensifies After Vijay’s Success
Dhanush’s organisational moves are attracting attention at a time when Tamil Nadu’s political landscape has been reshaped by actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay and his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Vijay’s party won 108 seats in the April 2026 Assembly elections and subsequently formed the government with post-poll allies.
Vijay’s own journey offers a possible parallel: he had built a network through his fan association before formally launching TVK in February 2024. Dhanush’s transition from a fan club to a welfare movement has consequently prompted questions about whether he could follow a similar path.
The political chatter has also drawn reactions from party leaders. Former AIADMK minister KT Rajendra Balaji recently said his party would welcome Dhanush if he chose to join it.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Congress leader Manickam Tagore alleged that the BJP was attempting to promote a new political face in the state, describing the purported strategy as “Operation D". This remains a political allegation, not an established link between Dhanush and the BJP.
Dhanush had earlier urged his fans to go beyond attending film and music launches and channel their collective strength into social service. At an event in July, he told supporters: “You need to give this unity a purpose."
For now, the actor’s political intentions remain unconfirmed. His latest meeting has strengthened speculation, but his two-word response to questions about a debut suggests fans may have to wait longer for a definitive answer.
