The family’s anxiety has intensified following reports of the death sentences handed down to the Bangladeshi couple.

A migrant worker from Balrampur village in Murshidabad, West Bengal, has been languishing in a Saudi Arabian prison for allegedly recording and posting a video of a Bangladeshi couple kissing in Mecca.

Following reports that the couple has been sentenced to death, his family, particularly his mother, is living in fear and desperately appealing for his release.

Social media has been flooded with posts about a Bangladeshi man and woman reportedly sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia. The name of a young man from Murshidabad has surfaced in connection with the circulation of the video. He is currently in a Saudi Arabian prison, leaving his family deeply worried about his fate.

Sahabuddin Sheikh, a resident of Balrampur village in Murshidabad, has been working as a migrant labourer in Saudi Arabia for the past eight years. On the day of the incident, he was employed as a sanitation worker in Mecca when he reportedly came across a Bangladeshi couple in an intimate situation.

According to reports, a Pakistani man recorded the moment using Sahabuddin’s mobile phone and later uploaded the video to social media. The clip went viral within a short time, drawing the attention of Saudi authorities. Sahabuddin was subsequently arrested over the alleged circulation of the video. He has reportedly been in prison since 2023, spending the past three years behind bars.

Family members said the video was uploaded merely for amusement, without any understanding of the possible consequences. They claimed that Sahabuddin and his associates had never imagined that the incident could lead to such serious repercussions.

Sahabuddin’s mother, Kohinoor Bibi, is struggling to cope with the uncertainty surrounding her son’s future.

“He did not commit any major crime. He is having to spend years in prison simply because he posted a video. My son had been working in Saudi Arabia for the past eight years. He was the sole earning member of our family, and we depended on the money he sent home from abroad to run the household. Now, we are somehow managing to make ends meet," she said.

The family’s anxiety has intensified following reports of the death sentences handed down to the Bangladeshi couple. They are now increasingly worried about what might happen to Sahabuddin.

“I do not know what will happen to my son. I am living in constant fear," Kohinoor Bibi said.

Sahabuddin’s family has reportedly appealed to the authorities to intervene and secure his release from the Saudi Arabian prison so that he can return to India. However, they claim that they have yet to receive a response.

As the family waits for news, the uncertainty surrounding Sahabuddin’s fate continues to take a heavy emotional and financial toll on his loved ones back home in Murshidabad.
