The East Division Cyber Crime Police have registered cases against personnel associated with two Point of Sale (POS) outlets of a major telecom operator in Bengaluru for allegedly selling SIM cards without collecting the mandatory documents and following prescribed verification procedures. The SIM cards were allegedly later used in cybercrime cases.

The action follows instructions from the Cyber Command Unit Centre, which directed the police to identify and take action against POS operators allegedly involved in the illegal sale of SIM cards used to commit cybercrimes across Karnataka and other parts of the country.

During an inspection of a mobile service provider outlet on 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar, the police allegedly found that seven SIM cards had been sold without collecting the required documents or following the prescribed procedures. The SIM cards were reportedly sold illegally from November 21, 2025.

The East CEN Crime Police have registered a case under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, in connection with the Indiranagar complaint. Further investigation is under way.

The police are examining the role of the POS outlets, their staff, the purchasers of the SIM cards and other suspected persons in the alleged network.
