Bank Holiday

Bank Holiday Today: Banks across several Indian cities will observe a holiday on Monday, October 26, 2026, in view of regional occasions such as Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, Laxmi Puja and Accession Day. As per bank holiday calendars, branches in Agartala, Chandigarh, Jammu, Shimla and Srinagar are among those scheduled to remain shut. The closure will not apply nationwide, as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) follows a city- and state-specific holiday schedule.

Customers who need to visit a branch for services such as depositing cash, clearing cheques or completing other banking transactions should confirm whether their local branch will be open before heading out. Internet banking and mobile banking are generally accessible during bank holidays, but services that require physical branch operations may take longer to process.

Bank holidays decided by RBI

The Reserve Bank of India decides the bank holidays in India. It publishes the RBI bank holiday calendar at the beginning of every year. Bank holidays are followed as per the RBI bank holiday calendar. The RBI categorises all bank holidays into three parts: Negotiable Instruments Act holidays, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays and banks’ closing of accounts. Bank holidays vary from region to region, depending on the festivals and observances. However, all banks observe holidays on national holidays like Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti.
