Hemanth had rushed towards the girl, attacked her with the tree-cutting tool and escaped from the classroom.
Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh on Sunday visited Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru to review the condition of the minor girl who sustained grievous injuries after being attacked by a 21-year-old man inside her government school in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district on Saturday morning.
Sharing an update on the girl’s health, the Minister said she was responding well to treatment. The 15-year-old has been shifted to the ICU after undergoing a 12-hour surgery, and the next 48 hours will be critical for her, he added.
The Minister also revealed that the accused, identified as Hemanth, had entered the school pretending to be a labourer, as construction work was underway on the premises. Hemanth had reportedly been visiting the school for the past four to five days, he added.
