The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched four schemes for the academic year 2026–27 to strengthen infrastructure, promote practical learning and research, and improve the quality of technical education. The council will provide financial assistance to eligible institutions under the schemes.

The four schemes are IDEA Lab, Grant for Organizing Conference (GOC), Modernization and Re-structuring for Outcome Based System (MODROBS), and the Margdarshan Scheme. They aim to encourage innovation among students, improve laboratory facilities, facilitate academic exchange and help institutions strengthen their teaching practices.

Speaking at the launch on Saturday, AICTE Chairman Prof Yogesh Singh said educational institutions needed to build a research-oriented and innovation-driven culture.

“Through IDEA Labs, we can encourage students to develop new ideas and translate them into practical solutions. It is time to rethink our teaching methods, promote experimentation and make our classrooms more interactive and student-centric,” he said.

Singh also emphasised the need for faculty members to use technology and artificial intelligence tools to improve teaching and learning. He said academic conferences should focus on the country’s priority areas and encourage meaningful exchange of ideas.

Under the IDEA Lab scheme, students will be encouraged to apply concepts in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to real-world challenges through hands-on learning.

The GOC scheme will support knowledge exchange among academicians, researchers and experts through national and international conferences.

The MODROBS scheme will provide support for modernising laboratories, workshops and computing facilities to strengthen practical learning, research and industry-oriented education.

The Margdarshan Scheme will facilitate mentoring by reputed institutions and centrally funded institutions to help other colleges improve academic practices, share resources and work towards better institutional performance and National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings.
