A 25-year-old man climbed a nearly 100-foot-high mobile tower at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi, demanding that Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren address his grievances before agreeing to come down. The man, identified as Heeralal from Jharkhand’s Latehar district, remained atop the tower for several hours before being safely rescued following prolonged negotiations with police, officials said.

According to Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Sanoj Choudhary, Heeralal climbed the tower around 12.30 am and was brought down safely around 7.30 am after counselling.

“We safely rescued the man after counselling him and assured him that his demands will be looked into. He climbed the tower around 12.30 am and was rescued around 7.30 am," Choudhary told PTI.

Videos of the incident circulating on social media showed police repeatedly urging Heeralal to climb down. Using a loudspeaker, an officer could be heard saying, “Heeralal, come down. Electronic media is here. Your demands will be heard."

In another purported video, Heeralal was heard demanding that Chief Minister Hemant Soren come and resolve his issue.

Police said the exact reason behind the protest is still under investigation. Prima facie, officials believe Heeralal was distressed after his wife left for her parental home.

However, eyewitnesses claimed he climbed the tower to protest alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, saying his wife had been unable to secure a government job because of them.

The incident comes as hundreds of students from across Jharkhand have been camping at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium for several days, protesting alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) and other recruitment bodies. The students have been demanding an impartial investigation into the alleged irregularities.

The protests have also gained political attention as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), staged demonstrations outside district collectorates in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Chatra, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged recruitment exam irregularities.

In Jamshedpur, BJP and BJYM workers held an “Akrosh Rally" against alleged corruption, question paper leaks and irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the JPSC, JSSC, CGL, Junior Engineer and Excise Department.

The party later submitted a memorandum addressed to the Jharkhand Governor through district authorities, seeking a CBI investigation, action against those responsible and the resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren over the alleged recruitment scam.
