What Is PM Surya Sarovar Yojana? Here's Everything You Need To Know

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY) to promote floating solar power projects across India. The government says the scheme could reduce around 10 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year, create 16,000-17,000 full-time equivalent jobs across manufacturing, installation and operations, improve grid reliability through energy storage, use existing reservoirs and industrial ponds without taking additional land, and boost domestic manufacturing of floats, solar modules, PV cells and energy storage systems under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
