A new video from the Jantar Mantar protest has surfaced, showing senior Delhi Police officers warning Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) organisers about inadequate crowd management arrangements and the possibility of the gathering becoming unmanageable.
The video features New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma and Joint CP Deepak Purohit speaking with CJP spokespersons Saurabh Das and Abhishek Ranka.
During the conversation, the officers are seen expressing concern over the lack of preparations for the protest and cautioning organisers about potential security risks.
According to the police officers in the video, Jantar Mantar was not meant to host protests of that nature without adequate arrangements.
They tell the organisers that there were not enough volunteers deployed to regulate the crowd, despite repeated requests from the police.
DCP Sachin Sharma is heard telling the organisers that they should deploy at least a minimum number of volunteers to help manage the gathering and prevent any untoward situation.
“I have been requesting you for quite some time," Sharma says in the video while speaking to the organisers.
The DCP also warns that there are “criminal elements" present among the crowd, making effective crowd management even more important.
The officers stress that without volunteers on the ground, the police alone would find it difficult to control the gathering if the situation escalated.
According to the police officers, they had repeatedly cautioned the organisers that if no action was taken, the swelling crowd could become increasingly difficult to manage.
The officers further state that these concerns were communicated to the organisers on July 19 and July 20 as the number of people assembling at Jantar Mantar continued to rise.
They say they had also explained to the organisers how crowds typically behave in such situations and why preventive measures were essential.
The newly surfaced video comes amid continuing scrutiny over the protests held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, which have remained at the centre of political and public debate.
The demonstration drew a large number of participants over several days, prompting heightened security deployment by Delhi Police.
The latest footage adds another dimension to the controversy, as it appears to show senior police officials warning organisers in advance about crowd control, volunteer deployment and possible law-and-order challenges.
