UP MLC Election Results 2026 Live: Counting of votes for 11 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council seats is scheduled to begin at 8 am today, with 152 candidates in the fray across five graduates’ and six teachers’ constituencies.

The elections covered 14,81,310 registered voters, with 2,697 polling stations set up across 72 districts. Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat and Unnao were excluded from the electoral exercise.

The main contest is between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP), with independent candidates and party rebels also in the fray. The outcome is being closely watched ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

SP Seeks Safeguards For Counting Process

Ahead of the counting, the Samajwadi Party on Monday urged the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer to ensure that outsourced employees are not deployed for counting duties.

In a memorandum submitted on the directions of party chief Akhilesh Yadav, SP state president Shyam Lal Pal also demanded a complete ban on violet-coloured sketch pens at counting centres.

“Outsourced employees should not be deployed for counting of votes for 11 Legislative Council seats on October 27,” a party statement quoted Pal as saying.

The party also called for counting in the next round to begin only after the ongoing round has been completed at every table and its results announced through loudspeakers, on the Election Commission’s website and at the returning officer’s table.

It further sought high-quality CCTV cameras at every counting table and other key locations to ensure that activities at the counting centres are recorded clearly.

In separate representations, SP candidates Lal Bihari Yadav and Ashutosh Sinha, contesting from the Varanasi teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies, respectively, demanded that only government employees be deployed for counting.

They warned that they would oppose the process if outsourced personnel were appointed, holding the Election Commission of India responsible for any resulting situation.

A letter from Kanti Singh, the SP candidate from the Lucknow graduates’ constituency, was also attached to the memorandum.

Repoll Held At Three Agra Polling Stations

Repolling was conducted peacefully at three polling stations in the Agra teachers’ constituency on Monday following allegations of booth capturing during the October 23 polling.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the three polling stations recorded a combined voter turnout of 57.16%.

According to the figures released by the CEO, polling station number 20 at the Tehsil Campus in Khairagarh recorded 51.60% turnout, while polling station number 21 at the Kshetra Panchayat Office in Saiyan recorded 58.23%. Polling station number 26 at the Kshetra Panchayat Office in Fatehabad recorded 58.65%.

The repoll was ordered after the returning officer recommended fresh voting at the three polling stations following allegations of booth capturing. Votes cast at these locations on October 23 were declared void under Section 58A(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

SP Alleges Booth Capturing, Seeks Action

The Samajwadi Party had earlier approached the Uttar Pradesh CEO, alleging booth capturing and irregularities during polling in several districts, including Amroha, Agra, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh and Gorakhpur.

The party sought repolling at polling stations where it alleged irregularities had occurred, citing video recordings and complaints filed by candidates and political parties. It also demanded that FIRs be registered against those responsible.

In its complaint, the SP alleged that BJP ministers, MPs and MLAs had influenced the voting process and intimidated opposition supporters. The allegations were made by the party during polling on October 23 and were not independently established in the material provided.

SP chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary had accused the BJP of resorting to electoral malpractice and alleged that the Election Commission had failed to act on complaints.
