Mumbai Police were investigating whether Ritik Kurmi alias Roshan, one of the accused arrested in the firing case involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, allegedly worked as a sleeper cell member for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in Mumbai for over a year, according to sources.

Investigators suspect that Ritik used his work as a delivery agent and bike-taxi rider to move around the city, conduct reconnaissance in upscale neighbourhoods where Bollywood celebrities reside, and share videos of these locations with members of the gang.

According to sources, Ritik allegedly posed as a Rapido rider to avoid attracting attention while travelling across Mumbai.

Investigators were also examining Ritik’s movements and stay in Mumbai.

Before shifting to a rented accommodation in Andheri East, he had reportedly spent several months in Juhu and Goregaon. During his stay in Juhu, Ritik allegedly obtained an Aadhaar card using a local address to avoid suspicion and establish a presence in the city.

Investigators suspect that Ritik was allegedly receiving money from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to cover his expenses and maintain his stay in Mumbai.

The other two accused were Rehan alias Sukka, from Haryana’s Sonipat, and Phool Singh, also from Haryana.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch told the Esplanade Magistrate’s Court on Thursday that gangster Anil Pandit, who had claimed responsibility for the firing in a social media post, was a wanted accused in the case.

Police alleged that the attack was carried out at Pandit’s behest.

Pandit, a 32-year-old alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang believed to be operating from the United States, had claimed responsibility for the October 18 attack.

The police also secured the custody of four arrested accused, Kunal, 21, and Sumit, 19, both from Sonipat in Haryana, and Radha, 23, and Babita, 23, both from Uttar Pradesh. The court remanded them to police custody till October 26.

According to the police, Kunal and Sumit collected a pistol and 20 rounds from Amritsar on Pandit’s instructions, while Radha and Babita travelled to Mumbai and handed over the weapon and ammunition to other conspirators.

The police alleged that the four had supplied a weapon to the shooters and actively participated in the conspiracy along with three people arrested earlier from Kota.

Defence lawyers Ajinkya Mirgul and Satyavrat Joshi opposed the police custody plea, arguing that there was no material against the four accused and that they had been arrested on mere suspicion.

After hearing both sides, the court remanded them to police custody till October 26.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE TIGER SHROFF FIRING CASE?

At least two men allegedly fired shots at Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on the evening of October 18 before fleeing on a motorcycle. The actor escaped relatively unhurt, while his driver and a bystander sustained injuries.

The motorcycle was later found abandoned in suburban Andheri.

Mumbai Police registered a case of attempt to murder and arrested 10 people so far, according to PTI.

The investigation is now examining the alleged roles of the accused, the supply of weapons and the suspected links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The police were also probing whether Ritik’s alleged activities in Mumbai involved reconnaissance of celebrity residences and the collection of information about security arrangements before the firing incident.
