Avilala Sudarshan Goud, a Telangana man, was killed in a Russian missile strike in Ukraine on September 1, with his mortal remains expected to reach Hyderabad in the early hours of October 31, nearly two months after his death.
Goud was a native of Hasanabad village in Jagtial mandal. His family had been waiting for his remains to be brought back to India so that his last rites could be performed at home.
The repatriation was delayed due to an investigation into the missile strike and a criminal case registered in connection with the incident, according to a report by Telangana Today.
Telangana Government Steps In
The state government began efforts to bring Goud’s remains back after his wife, Bhargavi, approached the CM Pravasi Prajavani in Hyderabad seeking assistance.
Jagtial MLA Dr Makunuri Sanjay Kumar and Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar also took up the matter with the state government.
Ahmad Nadeem, Principal Secretary to the General Administration Department (Political), wrote to India’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Anjani Kumar, on October 24, seeking help in facilitating the repatriation.
Mandha Bheem Reddy, vice-chairman of the Telangana Government’s NRI Advisory Committee, confirmed the development.
Remains To Travel Through Poland And Amsterdam
As flights cannot currently operate from Ukraine, Goud’s coffin will first be transported by road to Poland.
The remains will then be flown from Warsaw to Amsterdam before being taken onward to Hyderabad. The journey is scheduled to begin on October 29.
Once the remains reach Hyderabad, arrangements will be made to transport them to Hasanabad, where his family will perform the last rites.
