Indian stock market closed today’s (October 27) choppy session on a flat note. The Nifty50 closed the trade 3.45 points or 0.02 per cent lower at 22,749.75, while the 30-stock BSE Sensex settled 8.08 points or 0.01 per cent lower at 73,598.67. The market breadth remained in favour of bulls. Out of 3,665 stocks traded on the NSE, 2,455 advanced, while 1,103 stocks declined, and 107 scrips remained unchanged. In today's session, 28 stocks hit a fresh 52-week high, while 157 stocks were at a new 52-week low.
Tata Consumer Products’ shares gained the most in the Nifty50, closing 6.8 per cent higher. It was followed by Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Auto, BSE, Trent, and many others. On the other hand, Asian Paints, Coal India, Grasim Industries, SBI, and TCS were the five major losers in the index.
Indian equities ended flat amid a volatile session, as elevated crude prices and caution ahead of the US Fed policy decision overshadowed supportive global cues. Profit booking dragged IT and private banks, while pharma, autos, PSU banks and realty gained, with resilient broader-market participation pointing to selective domestic risk appetite, said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments.
"Healthy Q2 earnings and robust domestic flows continue to provide a cushion against persistent foreign selling. However, Brent above $115 and a weaker INR pose risks to inflation, corporate margins and financing conditions. Going forward, market direction will hinge on earnings resilience, crude trends, evolving developments in the West Asia crisis and the Fed’s policy signal," said Nair.
