For years, the ritual has been the same. Fans gather outside Mannat at midnight on November 2, and Shah Rukh Khan steps onto the balcony to wave at them. This year, the balcony stayed empty because the actor has temporarily moved out of his Bandra bungalow. Fans still got a birthday to remember, with a handwritten note, film visuals and the first song from King.
A Billboard Instead of a Balcony
A billboard outside Mannat carried a message in Shah Rukh’s own words. “Thank you all for your wishes and love. Sending mine right back to you all,” it read, signed off with “lots of love and a big hug.” The same note was shared on social media.
The bungalow was decorated with large posters and images from King, along with two dialogues from the film: “King Akela Kaafi Hai” and “Darr Nahi, Dehshat Hoon.” Mumbai Police personnel were deployed outside to manage the crowd. Red Chillies Entertainment also posted a message on X: “To the hearts that made him KING, a lot of love in return,” confirming the film’s release on December 24, 2026.
The Sea Link Lights Up, and a Sneak Drive
Celebrations began a day earlier. On Sunday, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link was illuminated with Shah Rukh’s pictures and birthday greetings. The actor slipped out for a drive to see the display and posted a photograph on X, thanking Google Gemini for the “KING-sized love.” He joked that he “had to sneak out for a drive to get this photo.” The Burj Khalifa also wished him with a “We love you” message, and fans across the country held cake-cutting events and gatherings.
Tu Mil Jaaye Drops at Midnight
The birthday also brought the first song from King. Tu Mil Jaaye was released at midnight on November 2 and reunites Shah Rukh with Deepika Padukone. It is composed by Sachin-Jigar, sung by Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi, with a rap section by British singer Ed Sheeran.
Announcing it, Shah Rukh posted lines that began “Yeh Daur Ishq ka Naseeb Waalon ko milta hai,” and described the film as a story of “Love and other Battles.” The hashtag attached was #LoveLikeAKing.
Directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures, King marks Suhana Khan’s theatrical debut alongside her father. The cast includes Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi, Raghav Juyal and Abhay Verma. It releases worldwide on December 24, 2026, in the Christmas holiday window.
A Different Kind of Birthday
The missing balcony wave changed the ritual but not the spirit. A written thank-you, a lit-up Sea Link and a new song kept the connection with fans alive, and set up the next stretch of the King campaign.
