Protesting against the hike in milk and curd prices and the increase in KSRTC bus fares, the Gandhadagudi Foundation, Karnataka, staged a peaceful demonstration in front of the Old Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Monday.
The foundation said the increase in prices of essential commodities had placed an additional burden on common man and urged the government to review its decision.
Aryan Gandhadagudi, president of the foundation, questioned the government for increasing the milk price by ₹12 per litre, despite the earlier announcement of hike by ₹8 per litre. “If ₹7 out of ₹12 goes to farmers, who will get the remaining ₹5,” he asked.
The price of curd had been increased by a steep ₹14 per litre, he said and urged the government to clarify who would receive the additional amount. Dairy farmers must receive fair price for their produce, while consumers should not be burdened by excessive price hike. It was the responsibility of the government to safeguard the interest of dairy farmers and consumers.
The foundation has urged the government to roll back the price hike while opposing the revision of the KSRTC bus fare, a release stated.
Office-bearers of the Gandhadagudi Foundation were present during the protest. As a mark of protest, protestors served black tea to passers-by.
