Narendra Modi is "proud of our contingent's performance" and congratulated the medal winners for helping India secure 39 medals, including 13 gold medals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian contingent for their stellar show at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow that concluded on Sunday night. He praised the athletes for their determination, dedication and skill after the country finished its campaign with 39 medals.

In a post on X, PM Modi said he’s “proud of our contingent’s performance" and congratulated the medal winners for helping India secure 39 medals, including 13 gold medals.

“Proud of our contingent’s performance at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Delighted that India has won 39 medals, including 13 Golds. Congrats to the medal winners. Throughout the Games, our talented athletes have displayed exceptional skill, determination and dedication. Their hard work will keep inspiring our youngsters. My best wishes to the entire Indian contingent for the endeavours ahead. May they continue to give their very best and bring further glory to the nation," Modi wrote.

India finished fourth in the overall medals table with a tally of 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals, despite competing in a significantly trimmed edition of the CWG that featured only 10 sports.

The reduced programme meant fewer medal opportunities compared to previous editions, making India’s finish among the top four quite impressive.

Boxing was India’s most successful discipline, contributing the largest share of medals, while athletics, para-athletics, weightlifting and judo also delivered podium finishes during the 11-day event.

While India topped the boxing charts, Gulveer Singh created history as the only Indian athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the CWG.

The Games also witnessed several standout performances from established stars and emerging athletes.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu claimed her third consecutive CWG gold medal, while para-athlete Sharmila Dhankar scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a CWG gold in para-athletics.

Olympians Neeraj Chopra and Lovlina Borgohain were among the high-profile names leading the Indian contingent.

The Glasgow Games concluded on Sunday with the ceremonial handover of the CWG flag to India, which will host the centenary edition of the event in Ahmedabad in 2030.
