Modi takes dig at Rahul

PM Narendra Modi takes dig at Congress, accuses it of defaming India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the opposition party of undermining India's image globally and repeatedly attempting to promote a "failed product" in an apparent swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Modi said that while the world was looking for leadership and stability amid global uncertainty, some political forces in India were hoping for disorder.

"The world is looking for new leadership, but some people in India are dreaming of disorder. At a time when there is so much instability across the world, the image of a strong India should be known globally. However, these people are bent on tarnishing India's reputation. They go abroad and defame India, and seek intervention from foreign powers," Modi said.

Without naming Rahul Gandhi, the Prime Minister took a jibe at the Congress leadership, saying the party continued to stake the country's interests on the promotion of a "failed product". "I don't know how long Congress will continue to put the country at stake to launch its failed product," Modi said at a summit.

Continuing his attack, Modi used a space-launch analogy to mock the Congress party's repeated efforts to project its leader. "In a year, there are not as many launches from Sriharikota as there are failed attempts by Congress leaders to launch their leader," he said. Modi further accused the Congress of questioning India's achievements and progress in an attempt to shield its leadership from political setbacks.

"Congress can do whatever it wants to itself; we have no problem with that. But to protect its family from the stigma of repeated failures, Congress is now putting India's achievements, India's strengths and India's progress in the dock," the Prime Minister said.

The remarks came during a wider speech in which Modi spoke about global geopolitical shifts, India's growing role in the world order and the country's economic and technological achievements. The Congress has not immediately responded to the Prime Minister's comments.
