Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior journalist Nidhi Razdan have announced their marriage on social media, sharing photographs a day after the wedding. “A new journey began yesterday,” Abdullah wrote, tagging Razdan. Razdan’s own post carried a lighter note: “It’s done bro.”
The couple chose to share the news directly with their followers rather than through a formal statement. Abdullah’s post came with a picture of the two together, and Razdan tagged him in hers. Neither has shared details of the ceremony, the venue or any celebration plans, so the circumstances of the wedding remain unclear for now.
Razdan spent nearly 21 years at NDTV, where she anchored programmes including Left, Right & Centre and The Big Fight. Her reporting has covered national politics, diplomacy, elections and Jammu and Kashmir. She is the author of Left, Right and Centre: The Idea of India, published in 2017, and has won journalism honours including the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism.
Abdullah’s Previous Marriage
The announcement comes three months after the Supreme Court dissolved Abdullah’s marriage to Payal Abdullah. On July 31, 2026, the court said it would end the marriage after both sides told it they had agreed to settle all pending disputes and withdraw the cases filed against each other. The couple jointly sought dissolution by mutual consent under Article 142 of the Constitution, and senior advocate Kapil Sibal appeared for them.
The two married in September 1994 after meeting while working at The Oberoi hotel in Delhi. They have two sons, Zahir and Zamir. They had lived separately since 2009, and Abdullah announced the separation in 2011.
The road to the divorce was long. A family court first rejected his plea, and the Delhi High Court later refused to grant it. The Supreme Court referred the matter to mediation in 2024, and the settlement followed this year.
A Personal Milestone for a Public Figure
Abdullah is the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and a senior National Conference leader, and Razdan is among India’s best-known political journalists. That combination is why a short social media post drew immediate attention. For both, it marks a significant personal chapter, shared in their own words and on their own terms.
