Police have arrested a man from Assam, along with his two aides, for allegedly plotting to kill his cousin in Bengaluru over a land and monetary dispute. All three accused hail from Assam.
The accused allegedly conspired to murder the man, identified as Allawuddin M, who works as a construction worker, by concealing an improvised explosive device (IED) inside a torch battery and planting it in a parcel.
The explosion occurred on October 20 on the fifth floor of an under-construction building on Jemaiah Road, under the Pulakeshinagar police station limits, injuring Allawuddin and his co-worker, Suraj Kumar, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said.
Acting swiftly, the Bengaluru East Division police formed 10 special teams to investigate the blast. After examining more than 1,500 CCTV cameras and questioning over 100 people, police arrested two suspects in Bengaluru and a third in Maski, Raichur district.
The accused have been identified as Zahidul Hussain Barbhuiya, 27, Sajidul Islam Laskar, 22, and Barhan Ahmed Barbhuiya. Police said the three accused were childhood friends who allegedly conspired to carry out the attack and exchanged information through a WhatsApp group.
According to police, a land dispute, a financial disagreement in their native village and a dispute over the cancellation of the accused’s sister’s marriage allegedly led to the conspiracy.
Police said the accused had researched online how to make an explosive device, procured raw materials locally and assembled the IED themselves.
As part of the alleged plan, they placed the device inside a parcel and left it at a petty shop, intending for the targeted person to collect it. They allegedly pressured him over the phone to open the package.
However, a co-worker opened the parcel, triggering the explosion. Both injured men were taken to hospital, with one reportedly seriously injured.
The operation involved Bengaluru Police’s Anti-Terrorism Cell, Central Crime Branch and Internal Security Division, along with Raichur district police, Assam Police and other agencies. Further investigation is underway.
