Applied for 1 lot or 168 shares, how many will you get? Social media buzzes with tentative scenarios

With the Jio Platforms' IPO scheduled to be allotted on Monday, the investors are stoked and showcasing their excitement on social media. Given the scale of the IPO, which is Rs 30,213 crore, the experts are also busy contemplating the different scenarios possible. In the process, an array of predictions is making rounds on social media. Moreover, not just experts, but investors are also turning to AI to understand their chances of receiving shares based on the number of shares they have applied for.

Notably, the Jio IPO received an overall subscription of around 22.19 times, with investors sharing allotment calculations and tentative estimates on social media.

Jio IPO allotment: How many shares can you get?

Tentative allotment calculations shared by IPO trackers on social media suggest that the number of shares investors receive could vary significantly across categories.

According to a tentative allotment matrix shared by IPO tracker @ipo_mantra, the estimated allotment could be as follows:

  • Big HNI category: Around one out of every 2.7 applicants could receive 180 shares.
  • Small HNI category: Around one out of every 8.8 applicants could receive 180 shares.
  • Retail category: Around 10 out of every 14 applicants could receive 12 shares.
  • Shareholder category: Investors who applied for 168 shares could receive around 22 shares, subject to the final allotment calculation.

These figures are estimates circulating on social media and should not be treated as confirmed allotment numbers.

Jio IPO shareholder quota: What if you applied for 168, 156 or 84 shares?

The shareholder category has attracted particular attention as investors attempt to calculate their likely allotment based on the number of shares applied for.

Market analyst @ipo_agarwal estimated that subscription in the shareholder category could be around seven times after accounting for rejected applications.

According to estimates shared online, investors who applied for 168 shares could receive around 24 shares, while those who applied for 156 shares could receive approximately 22 shares. The final numbers may change depending on the valid applications and the registrar's allotment methodology.

Another estimate shared by @GuruShareMarket suggested that applicants for 168 shares, equivalent to 14 lots, could receive around two lots, while those who applied for approximately seven lots could receive at least one lot.

Investors applying for smaller quantities could face lottery-based allocation, depending on the final basis of allotment.

Jio IPO allotment: What does Grok say

Investors have also been asking Grok to estimate their allotment chances based on their applications.

In one such estimate, a user who applied for eight lots in the shareholder category was told that an allotment of around 12–13 shares could be possible. The estimate was based on the reported subscription level and the assumption of proportionate allocation, but it remains unconfirmed.

The actual number of shares allotted may differ from these calculations. Investors should also remember that subscription figures alone do not determine the final allotment for an individual applicant.

Jio IPO allotment: What if you applied for just 1 lot?

Investors who applied for only one lot under the shareholder quota may have to depend on the lottery-based allotment process. According to tentative calculations shared on social media, applicants with smaller applications may have a lower chance of receiving shares because demand in the category is significantly higher than the shares available.

One estimate suggests that an application for one lot could have roughly a one-in-seven chance of allotment, which in other words can be as 14.28 per cent. However, the actual probability may differ once invalid or rejected applications are accounted for. Applying for more lots does not necessarily guarantee proportionately more shares, as allotment rules and the final number of valid applicants will determine the outcome.

Jio IPO allotment date, refunds and listing

The basis of allotment is expected to be finalised on Monday, October 26. Refunds for unsuccessful applicants and the credit of shares to successful applicants' demat accounts are scheduled for October 27, while the shares are expected to list on October 28.

Investors can check their allotment status through the registrar, KFin Technologies, or the BSE and NSE websites once the results are available.

With the IPO attracting strong demand, investors will have to wait for the official allotment details to know how many shares they have received. All figures currently circulating on social media remain tentative, and the final outcome will depend on the approved basis of allotment.
