Harish, who had amassed a following of over 1.3 million on social media, created content on personal finance and investments.
YouTuber and tech CEO Jason Samuel has been arrested in connection with the suicide of YouTuber Harish after Harish’s father filed a complaint alleging cyberbullying and mental harassment by Samuel.
Finance YouTuber V Harish, 27, who ran the popular channel Finance With Harish, died by suicide in Chennai on Monday night. His father has alleged that cyberbullying by Jason Samuel, CEO of venture studio Zemuria Inc., contributed to his death.
A video purportedly recorded by Harish before his death has surfaced on social media. In it, he alleges mental harassment, threats against his family and demands for money amid a dispute over his financial advisory credentials.
Harish had over 1.3 million followers across social media and regularly created content on personal finance and investments. His Instagram account was reportedly disabled in September following allegations about his professional credentials. He later began posting videos through a new handle.
Harish’s father, J Vinayagam, subsequently approached the police with a complaint alleging cyberbullying and seeking an investigation. No suicide note was found, and police have registered a case of unnatural death.
‘My Five Years Of Hard Work Was Stolen’
In the latest video circulating online, Harish describes how the controversy affected his professional and personal life.
“It is five years of hard work. If you find any mistakes in me, you can question me. I can respond to that. But my five years of hard work was stolen," he says in the video.
Harish alleges that he was threatened with consequences involving his family. He also claims that the person confronting him invoked political connections in Puducherry, where Harish said he was from.
He further alleges that money was demanded from him and that he was questioned about where he would go without paying. Describing the experience as mental harassment, Harish says he was warned of a possible Income Tax (IT) department penalty amounting to 60% and the possibility of imprisonment.
According to Harish’s account in the video, he was offered a compromise in exchange for money. Otherwise, he alleges, the person threatened to release more videos, referring to them as “Part 2 and Part 3".
Harish also acknowledges that well-wishers had encouraged him and helped restore his confidence. However, he says he was struggling to come to terms with what had happened.
The allegations made in the circulating video have not been independently verified.
Jason Samuel Denies Cyberbullying
Jason Samuel expressed grief over Harish’s death while denying allegations that he had cyberbullied the influencer.
“I am deeply saddened, heavily grieving, shocked and frozen at what has happened, and I mourn the loss of life," Samuel wrote in a post on X.
He said his criticism was directed at Harish’s credentials and alleged misrepresentation of regulatory authorisations.
“I have not cyber-bullied him. I pointed out his lack of license and authority, misrepresentation of license and fraud on SEBI and AMFI," he said.
Samuel further alleged that Harish had misrepresented his credentials relating to the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). He claimed that Harish had obtained an AMFI Registration Number (ARN) only recently and questioned whether he was registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) as a Registered Investment Adviser (RIA).
“I literally asked him in the video to come back and do this with a proper SEBI license," Samuel added. He said he had neither intended nor expected such a tragic outcome.
