With a depression over the Bay of Bengal expected to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday, Bengaluru is likely to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers, heavy at times, over the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
Between October 26 and 31, scattered to isolated rainfall is likely over parts of South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at a few places in Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Chamarajanagar and other parts of South Interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather is likely in Ballari, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Chikkaballapura, Mandya and Vijayanagara districts.
The city is likely to remain generally cloudy, with the maximum and minimum temperatures around 27 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also likely on Monday (October 26).
The depression is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday morning, and into a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal around Tuesday morning, the weather body said.
Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm, reaching the west-central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast around Wednesday morning. It is very likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam by Wednesday forenoon, with maximum sustained wind speeds of 115-125 kmph.
