Music composer Ilaiyaraaja has opened up about why he does not attend the funerals of people close to him. His explanation came after the death of veteran guitarist Sadanandam, who passed away in Chennai on October 29 at the age of 79.
In a condolence video, Ilaiyaraaja spoke about his long association with the musician and shared why he prefers not to see people after their death. He said he remembers them as people who lived and worked alongside him.
Ilaiyaraaja on why he avoids attending funerals
In his condolence message, Ilaiyaraaja said, "I was deeply saddened to learn that Sadanandam, who worked with me for a long time from the early days of my career, passed away today. I do not see people after they have passed away.
I do not like seeing them in that state either. This is because they were all people who worked and lived with me when they were alive and became a part of my emotions. I pray to the Almighty that his soul rests in peace.
" His words provide us with some understanding of his personal attitude toward death and give reasons for avoiding funerals.
Sadanandam's long association with Ilaiyaraaja
Sadanandam was one of the most trusted guitarists in Ilaiyaraaja's music team. He worked with the composer for more than 40 years and served as the lead guitarist in his orchestra.
He was also the son of veteran music composer R Sudarsanam, who worked on several films under the AVM banner. Sadanandam developed an interest in music at a young age and became an expert guitarist. Ilaiyaraaja had spoken on several occasions about their friendship and their early working days.
The two musicians reportedly worked together on more than 50 films in a single year during their early careers.
Ilaiyaraaja's emotional bond with fellow musicians
The statement from Ilaiyaraaja brings to light another point about his personal relationship with all those musicians who made a part of his career. Though it has often been asked why he does not attend funerals, he has now clearly explained himself. He would like to keep in mind the happy moments he spent with his friends and colleagues rather than their last moment. His tribute to Sadanandam has once again highlighted their friendship and collaboration in music.
