HYDRAA removes seven borewells near Fox Sagar

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) removed seven borewells near Fox Sagar in Jeedimetla on Tuesday as part of its drive against illegal groundwater extraction and sale.

The agency detected an operation near the lake on the outskirts of Kompally, where water was being filled into tankers between containers under large sheds. Some tankers allegedly carried HMWSSB stickers to make them appear as vehicles belonging to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. HYDRAA seized the vehicles involved in the operation.

The agency removed the borewells along with their pipes, dismantled arrangements for storing water in plastic tanks and stopped preparations to drill additional borewells in the area.

With the latest action, HYDRAA has removed 38 illegal borewells near three lakes. These include 25 near Sunnam Cheruvu, six near Thammidikunta and seven near Fox Sagar.
