A meeting had been scheduled at the hotel on October 26 to resolve the dispute. However, according to police, an argument escalated into a physical altercation before the meeting could formally begin, after which the accused allegedly opened fire on six people.
Gogoi has been arrested and remanded to police custody. The firearm allegedly used in the shooting has also been seized.

The Assam Police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT), led by Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain, to probe the killings.
“The SIT will undertake a comprehensive investigation into the incident, including examination of forensic evidence, statements of witnesses, the circumstances leading to the firing and all other relevant aspects of the case," police said.
Teams from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have examined the crime scene and collected evidence. Investigators recovered several spent cartridge cases and live cartridges of .32 calibre, police said.
The probe will examine forensic evidence, witness statements and the circumstances leading to the shooting.
