FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono has said that he is struggling to find the words and it’s very tough for him to process anything that has happened, after a collision between him and Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel killed the latter.

De Miguel passed away on Tuesday from injuries sustained in a horrific collision with Owono during a Spanish second-division game, sending shockwaves through the football world and prompting an outpouring of condolences from across the globe.

De Miguel’s remains were on Wednesday taken to Tenerife’s home ground.

“These are the hardest days of my life. I struggle to find the words and it’s very difficult for me to process anything that has happened. I feel immense pain over the loss of Jesus," Owono said in a statement published by his club, Andorra.

“I think of him, of his family and of all the people who loved him. I know there will be many issues to address and I will face whatever comes with the utmost respect," Owono added.

According to a report in AFP, an investigation into what happened has been opened by the Spanish police, under judicial supervision.

Andorra footballers observed a minute’s silence before a voluntary training session on Wednesday, which Owono, 25, didn’t attend.

After de Miguel’s death, the Andorra goalkeeper received a letter of support and condolence from Venancio Tomas Micha, president of Equatorial Guinea’s football federation.

“I feel compelled to convey all our solidarity and support at this time to our player Jesus Lazaro Owono. We know that, as the involuntary protagonist of this tragic incident in the game, he is living through this situation with deep sorrow and distress," Micha said.

“From the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation, we offer him all our human and professional backing, fully aware of the harshness of this event, which no one in our sport ever wishes to witness," Micha added.
