Delhi Police have apprehended a minor girl student for allegedly sending a fake bomb-threat email to Air Force Bal Bharati School on Lodhi Road, with investigators finding that she purportedly orchestrated the hoax to get a day off from classes.

According to Delhi Police, the school received the threatening email on October 23 with the subject line “Bombs Placed in Your Building".

The Cyber Police Station of South District subsequently launched a technical investigation to trace the source of the email and identify the sender.

The investigation revealed that the alleged sender was a student of the same school, police said. Her reported motive was to get the institution closed for the day, turning the bomb threat into an alleged attempt to avoid attending classes.

Police said a detailed technical examination of the email, digital evidence and associated linkages helped investigators trace its origin and identify the student.

The action comes amid a recent spate of bomb-threat emails targeting schools in the national capital, prompting security agencies to conduct precautionary checks at affected institutions.

In a statement, Delhi Police said the Cyber Police Station, South District, initiated an investigation after the school received the threatening communication on October 23.

The technical investigation helped establish that the alleged sender was a student of Air Force Bal Bharati School itself. The police identified her as a child in conflict with the law, a term used for a minor alleged to have committed an offence.

Investigators subsequently initiated legal action against the minor under the applicable provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

The development follows a series of bomb-threat emails received by schools in Delhi.

Three institutions, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodi Estate, Venkateshwar Global School in Rohini, and Salwan Public School in Mayur Vihar, had allegedly received bomb-threat emails that Friday morning.

Following the threats, authorities launched search operations at the schools.

The Delhi Fire Service dispatched teams, while the premises were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Bomb disposal squads, dog squads, fire department personnel and police teams were involved in the searches.

Officials told PTI that no suspicious object had been found during the searches at the time of the report, and investigations were underway to trace the source of the threat emails.
