Datia Bypoll Result 2026, Counting Live Updates: Counting for the Datia Assembly by-election is set to take place today, August 3, with political parties and voters on edge as they await the verdict in the closely watched contest. Polling for the by-election concluded on July 30, with the focus now pinned on the outcome.
The voter turnout was recorded at 71.44 per cent till 6 PM. However, it was lower than the 80.2 per cent voting recorded in the 2023 Assembly elections, when Congress’s Rajendra Bharti defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and the then-Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra.
This time, the seat –– home to the world-famous Goddess Pitambara Temple –– is witnessing a three-cornered contest between two-time former Congress MLA Kunwar Ghanshyam Singh, BJP’s first-time candidate Ashutosh Tiwari, and Azad Samaj Party (KR) leader Damodar Singh Yadav.
The by-election in Datia garnered significant attention as senior Congress and BJP leaders were actively campaigning for their respective candidates.
When Will Counting Begin?
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), counting of votes for the Datia Assembly will commence at 8 AM. Counting for postal ballots will be held first, followed by Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Trends are expected to emerge in the morning, with the final outcome becoming clear by the evening. However, it hinges on the pace of counting.
Why A By-Polling Was Necessitated In Datia
The by-election in the Datia Assembly constituency was necessitated following the disqualification of sitting Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti, who lost his membership after being convicted and sentenced to three years in prison in a 2015 bank fraud case.
