The Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a massive political mobilisation in Hyderabad on November 2, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah set to participate in a Maha Padyatra under the slogan ‘Loktantra Bachao – Arajakata Hatao’ (Save Democracy – Remove Anarchy).
BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao announced that Shah would visit Hyderabad to participate as the chief guest in the march, which is expected to draw thousands of people, including party workers, advocates, doctors, intellectuals and professionals from various fields.
The Maha Padyatra will begin at around 3 pm from the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue opposite Nizam College in Basheerbagh and proceed towards the Mozamjahi Market junction. Amit Shah will address a public meeting at the concluding point of the march.
The BJP plans to step up its campaign against the Congress over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, accusing the opposition party of spreading misinformation about the exercise.
The Hyderabad programme assumes a political significance as it comes a day after the opposition parties are scheduled to organise a rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1 alleging irregularities in the electoral roll revision process and demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The back-to-back programmes are seen as part of the BJP’s strategy to counter the Opposition’s allegations over SIR, defend the electoral revision exercise and mobilise public support through a nationwide outreach campaign.
As part of the initiative, the BJP is also organising intellectuals’ conferences across Assembly constituencies, awareness programmes for university students and district-level events under the banner of ‘Citizens for Democracy’.
