Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann inaugurated two Schools of Eminence in Ludhiana, taking the district's tally to 16, while highlighting Punjab's top rank in school education.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday inaugurated two new Schools of Eminence at Kidwai Nagar and Miller Ganj in Ludhiana, taking the total number of such schools in the district to 16. Equipped with modern classrooms, advanced laboratories, an auditorium and other facilities, the two campuses are part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public education and improve learning infrastructure.

Addressing the gathering, Mann said Ludhiana, long known as Punjab’s industrial hub, is now emerging as a leader in the state’s education revolution. He said the Schools of Eminence initiative has helped bridge the gap in access to quality education by providing students from ordinary families with facilities comparable to, and in some cases better than, those available in private institutions.

Modern Campuses Built With Advanced Facilities

The Chief Minister said the School of Eminence at Kidwai Nagar has been built at a cost of ₹10.62 crore over 8,300 square yards. The campus comprises 60 rooms, including 27 classrooms, seven modern laboratories, a library, the Principal’s office, a 500-seat auditorium and nine washrooms.

The Miller Ganj School of Eminence has been constructed at a cost of ₹3.48 crore on 1,800 square yards. The new building houses 22 rooms, including 11 classrooms, seven laboratories, the Principal’s office and six washrooms. An elevator has also been installed to make the campus more accessible for students.

Mann also noted that the previously inaugurated School of Eminence at Inderpuri is equipped with facilities such as a swimming pool and tennis court, adding that enrolment there has increased from 1,320 to 1,788 students.

Government Schools Witness Rising Enrolment

During his visit, the Chief Minister toured classrooms and science laboratories, interacted with students about their studies and scientific projects, and met teachers and school staff. Several students sought his autograph and presented him with hand-made portraits, while a parent felicitated him with a bouquet and appreciated the government’s initiatives in the education sector.

Sharing the occasion on social media platform X, Mann said the improved learning environment in government schools is encouraging students to shift from private schools. He highlighted that 882 students from Punjab government schools qualified the NEET examination this year, while more than 125 cleared JEE Main, describing quality education as the foundation of the “Rangla Punjab" envisioned by the government.

Punjab’s Education Reforms in Focus

The Chief Minister said around 200 government schools in Ludhiana district have undergone infrastructure upgrades and nearly three lakh students are studying in government schools across the district. Besides 16 Schools of Eminence, Ludhiana now has 11 Schools of Brilliance and 35 Schools of Happiness.

Mann reiterated that education remains the government’s top priority, arguing that quality education not welfare schemes alone is the most effective way to eliminate poverty and improve people’s standard of living. He said the state government has introduced smart classrooms, strengthened school infrastructure and invested in teacher training, including overseas exposure programmes, to improve learning outcomes.

Punjab Claims Top Rank in School Education

Highlighting the state’s progress, Mann said Punjab has moved from 27th position to the top rank in school education in the country. He added that the state has surpassed Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi in primary and middle-school education, citing recent NITI Aayog figures.

The Chief Minister said that while only 80 students from Punjab government schools had qualified NEET in 2021, the number has risen to 881 in 2026. He also said Punjab pioneered Parent-Teacher Meetings in government schools, with nearly 24 lakh parents participating, while around 20,000 students, including 12,000 girls, are being provided free bus transportation.

In Ludhiana alone, Mann said 155 students qualified the JEE and NEET examinations, 47 cleared the Punjab State Talent Search Examination, and 201 students represented the district in national-level sporting events last year, winning 25 medals, including seven gold medals.

Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and other senior officials were present at the inauguration ceremony.
