Bank holidays decided by RBI
The Reserve Bank of India decides the bank holidays in India. It publishes the RBI bank holiday calendar at the beginning of every year. Bank holidays are followed as per the RBI bank holiday calendar.
There are usually two types of bank holidays which include national holidays and government holidays. The government holidays are categorised into two: state government holidays and central government holidays.
Bank holidays vary from region to region, depending on the festivals and observances. However, all banks observe holidays on national holidays like Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti.

RBI MPC Minutes: Several issues discussed
From rising household expenses and home loan EMIs to employment opportunities, real estate, automobile sales and the rupee, members of the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) discussed several issues affecting the Indian economy during their October 5-7 meeting.
The minutes, released on October 21, reveal how six MPC members assessed inflation, economic growth, private investment, borrowing costs and global risks. These discussions matter to ordinary Indians because monetary policy can influence loan costs, consumer prices, business investment and economic activity.
All six members supported increasing the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50 per cent. However, Nagesh Kumar and Ram Singh preferred retaining a neutral policy stance rather than shifting to calibrated tightening.
Meanwhile, Emkay Global Research expects another 50 basis points of rate increases by February 2027. This is the brokerage's forecast, not an RBI decision.
