Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to hold a series of organisational meetings across Uttar Pradesh as the BJP steps up preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections, with a focus on assessing poll readiness and fine-tuning its strategy amid the evolving political situation.

Shah, widely regarded as the BJP’s top election strategist, is slated to hold meetings across the party’s six organisational regions — Western UP, Braj, Kanpur, Awadh, Kashi and Gorakhpur. The meetings are expected to focus on strengthening the organisation, reviewing election preparedness and discussing the party’s strategy for the politically crucial state, sources said.

The proposed meetings come at a time when the BJP is sharpening its organisational machinery ahead of the Assembly polls. The party is also expected to assess the political implications of recent developments, including the controversy over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks about the Prime Minister’s father. In Patna, responding angrily to an audience who said, “Modi kahin nahin jayega (PM Narendra Modi won’t go anywhere)," Kharge hit back, saying, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega (Even his father will have to go)".

The controversy could provide the BJP with an opportunity to sharpen its political messaging around PM Modi’s personal background and the Opposition’s approach towards him. Modi belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, which accounts for an estimated 42-45 per cent of Uttar Pradesh’s electorate, making the community a key constituency in the state’s electoral arithmetic.

Whether and how the BJP incorporates the controversy into its campaign messaging remains to be seen. The issue, however, comes as the party prepares to consolidate its support base and counter the Opposition’s political narrative ahead of the polls.

BJP Expands UP State Working Committee

The proposed meetings also come against the backdrop of the BJP’s organisational expansion in Uttar Pradesh. On Monday, the party announced a 712-member state working committee, significantly larger than the 445-member body announced in 2021.
