5-Year-Old Karnataka Boy Dies After Swallowing Plastic Toy Ball Found In Chips Packet

According to preliminary information, Mukund allegedly found a small plastic gift ball inside a chips packet and accidentally swallowed it.

A five-year-old boy allegedly died after swallowing a small plastic toy ball found inside a packet of Kurkure snacks in Karnataka’s Mysuru district, police said. The child, identified as Mukund Mayur, was the grandson of former Gram Panchayat vice-president Gouramma and Shankar Nayak, and the only son of Santosh and Aishwarya.

According to preliminary information, Mukund allegedly found a small plastic gift ball inside a chips packet and accidentally swallowed it. The toy is suspected to have become lodged in his throat, causing suffocation. The child was rushed for medical assistance but he could not be saved.

Police  registered a case at the Hunsur Rural Police Station and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are expected to examine how the plastic toy came to be inside the snack packet as part of the probe.

The incident comes months after another choking-related tragedy in the same region. Earlier this year, a six-and-a-half-month-old infant, Chinmay Gowda, died after choking on a dried hibiscus flower kept for pooja at his home in Doddahejjoor village in Mysuru’s Hunsur. According to reports, the infant was playing with an elder sibling when he picked up a dried flower placed at the entrance of the house and put a piece of it into his mouth. When the sibling tried to remove it, the child accidentally swallowed it.

The baby was initially taken to a hospital in Hanagodu for first aid before being shifted to a private hospital in Mysuru for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, the infant succumbed, leaving the family devastated.
